Hilsmier Extends Impact on Healthcare with Firm-Wide Community Day
Hilsmier staff took part in its 2019 Community Day initiative today with NC MedAssist, a nonprofit pharmacy program that provides uninsured North Carolina residents access to lifesaving prescription medications. Hilsmier employees spent the day working alongside MedAssist staff in the organization’s Charlotte-based warehouse, helping to sort, pack and organize medications that will be distributed at their free mobile pharmacy programs across the state.
“We really believe in and support the mission of NC MedAssist – a non-profit located near our headquarters here in Charlotte,” said Craig Hilsmier, President and CEO of Hilsmier. “In line with our firms’ vision of advancing healthcare systems and the lives they touch, MedAssist works to ensure that no person in North Carolina has to choose between purchasing food or their needed medication. They’re really making a big impact on thousands of lives across our state.”
Nationally, nearly 4 million poor uninsured adults fall into the “coverage gap” that results from state decisions not to expand Medicaid, meaning their income is above current Medicaid eligibility but below the lower limit for marketplace premium tax credits. According to NC MedAssist, more than 500,000 North Carolinians fall into the coverage gap. Currently, the organization provides free prescription medication to more than 15,000 residents across all 100 counties in North Carolina. NC MedAssist estimates that for every dollar donated, they’re able to dispense twenty dollars in medication back to the community.
